It is not even July yet, we have had quite a few campers already, escaping the confines of their homes (during the pandemic) to enjoy the great outdoors here.
It is not even July and we have already gone through a ton of firewood, as campers have come here to escape the confines of their home during the pandemic lock-down, to enjoy the great outdoors here.
We are almost out of firewood, and obviously need to collect/buy more throughout the summer. We do not charge extra for firewood, as we like to charge one fee for camping and not add extra costs while you’re here. That said, there have been a few campers who have taken so much firewood, creating large fires for extended periods, that we will have to raise our prices to cover those costs – We don’t want to do that. Wood is a resource that we use throughout the year, for heating our home in winter, the cabin and guest house, and for campfires.
It takes time, energy and $ to chop down dead-standing trees, clear brush, and otherwise have it delivered in cords. We ask that you be reasonable with your campfires, and not build huge log towers – Or, chop down live trees to make a bonfire (!) Yes, people did that, and no, it’s not acceptable… we no longer leave the ax at the sauna because someone decided they would use it to chop down a lovely live spruce tree on our beach to throw into their bonfire – Note, please do not make your own bonfire, we are the only ones who add brush to create the bonfire at the beach… all you have to do is ask us if you want one while you’re here. Chris is a firefighter and the only person who has the authority to create these large fires.
If you think you’d like to have larger campfires at the cabin or your campsite, please let us know, we are happy to show you a site with open space (no overhanging trees) and supply the wood (if available), but will ask for an extra fee to cover our costs. This is common sense to most of you – but, just in case, there you have it.
